Thanksgiving Challenge Finished

26 Monday Nov 2012

We are done with the holiday weekend and, yes, I completed the Thanksgiving Challenge. It definitely happened in bits and pieces, but this is what I got accomplished…
One day I went to the library to scour through a microfilm I ordered from the Family History Center. The county I was searching did not have probate records filmed and all I could find was a microfilmed copy of a book of will abstracts. No luck, I didn’t find what I was looking for. Another day I spent time working on my assignment for the Professional Genealogy class, and putting together a handout on Swedish research for the upcoming ethnic festival. Finally this weekend, I finished up my analysis and research plan for the ProGen class. Whew, that was an accomplishment, as I am right in the middle of packing to move. The challenge was a great way to motivate myself (especially when I was procrastinating from packing). Thanks, Kassie.

Thanksgiving Challenge – Day One

18 Sunday Nov 2012

I’ve decided to take on a challenge during a busy holiday week.  My friend, Kassie, of Cedar Tree Genealogy presented a challenge to all genealogists a few weeks ago (http://cedartree.blog.com/2012/11/01/the-thanksgiving-challenge/) to spend 7 hours during Thanksgiving week working on genealogy…and to write about it.

The timing of this challenge may seem inconvenient, but for me it is a godsend.  I have an assignment to complete for the ProGen class I am taking, and was trying to figure out how to get it done this week.  I have to do an analysis existing data and develop a detailed research plan.  I chose to work on one of my brickwall lines, James Allison of Montgomery County, Indiana.

I spent my time today reviewing my previous research, making notes, and reviewing the book chapters.  All ready to get down to the nitty-gritty tomorrow.  Thanks for the challenge, Kassie.  Now I’ll get my assignment done this week.
